WEEE

The Entertainer & Early Learning Centre sells a variety of toys in our physical retail stores, and on our online website. Some of these toys have electrical components meaning they fall under UK law. Therefore, this statement has been published in accordance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006. It sets out the steps that The Entertainer has taken as a business to ensure the correct disposal of these products.

Producer Obligation
This UK law is designed to reduce the amount of Waste Electrical products which are destined for landfill. As a producer of toys that will be taken home, loved, and eventually no longer needed, we are required to work with our business partners to ensure that all Electrical items contain a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. This warns users that these products shouldn’t be thrown in the bin as they are harmful, and can have plenty of value if reused, recycled, or repurposed.

Doing this allows other children to enjoy our products and reduces the impact on the environment
that the creation of new products has. The Entertainer are required to provide data to the Government
on the quantity of Electrical products that we are responsible for selling through our stores and
online. As well as this, we are obliged to make a financial contribution towards the recycling of
products.

We report through our compliance scheme Electrolink Recycling Ltd, who support us in ensuring that we are fulfilling our obligations for producer compliance. Our Producer Registration is: WEE/KJ0061TU.

If you have any questions please contact our head offices on: enquiries@theentertainer.com.

Distributor Obligation
The Entertainer & Early Learning Centre also has a responsibility to provide a home for pre-loved toys with electronic components.  As such we offer you the option to return your old toy (free of charge) when purchasing a similar item.

We will work with our recycling partners to make sure that these products are looked after and that they are repurposed for other children to enjoy, or will be recycled and be used to create new products.

If you have any questions please contact our head offices on: enquiries@theentertainer.com.

You are not obliged to make any purchase when returning old batteries. Each local authority must also accept household WEEE and small batteries free of charge at its recycling facilities. All WEEE and waste batteries must be recycled and should not be placed in any of your household wheelie bins. Make sure you always recycle all your old electrical goods and batteries.

Republic of Ireland

The Entertainer will take back your WEEE on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis, free of charge. WEEE and waste batteries can also be returned to your local civic amenity site free of charge. The following link will show you how to find the civic amenity site closest to you where you can recycle your WEEE, Batteries and Light bulbs, https://www.weeeireland.ie/household-recycling/where-can-i-recycle/.

Batteries

The Entertainer & Early Learning Centre sells batteries in our physical retail stores, and on our online website. We have a requirement under UK law to provide consumers with education on battery disposal, and to offer them an opportunity to bring smaller batteries to us that we can ensure are responsibly looked after. The Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 is the legislation which sets the standards for this.

Distributor of Batteries
We fulfil our obligation by accepting used batteries from our consumers with our in-store collection service which operates in 160 locations at no cost.

We work with our Battery Producer Compliance Scheme: Ecosurety, and other accredited recycling partners to ensure the treatment of batteries is successful in reducing the harmful impact that they can cause when they no longer work. The extraction of valuable materials and ensuring that they can be reused in order to reduce the need for mining for new materials is included in our work. We are exploring ways to find new uses for the harmful toxins which are produced by batteries to benefit a more circular economy.

If you have portable batteries that no longer work, please bring them into our stores and use our collections buckets and help save the planet. Please contact a member of staff if you have any questions.

Producer of Batteries
In addition to the Distributor definition, The Entertainer also have a requirement under the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009, as a Producer of batteries. This means that the batteries that are in our toys that we make available for sale by importing or manufacturing, we are responsible for. These are alkaline chemistries.

Household batteries can contain chemicals that are harmful and dangerous if they go to landfill. Therefore, it’s important to ensure that they are not placed in your normal waste bin. When the batteries are placed into landfill, they can cause soil and water pollution, which may lead to health risks. By helping The Entertainer to bring back batteries, you can avoid this and help save the planet’s resources.

Where possible, the batteries that we work with will have the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol.
This is designed to educated consumers on the harm of placing these batteries in your normal bin.
Some of the batteries will be too small to fit this symbol on as they can be smaller than a button.
For these products, we include a picture on the label of the toy.

The Entertainer fulfil their legal compliance requirements by working with Battery Compliance scheme: Ecosurety. Our Battery Producer Registration Number (BPRN) is: BPRN02400.

 Packaging

The Entertainer & Early Learning Centre sells a variety of different toys in our physical retail stores, and on our online website. Most, if not all, of the products in which we sell will come in some form of packaging – whether they have been bought online, or in store. The introduction of The Packaging Waste Regulations 2007 puts us under obligation to ensure the handling and disposal of packaging is actioned correctly.

Recycling Packaging
We ask that all reusable materials be recycled when the packaging is discarded, and at the end of the product’s life, in order to reduce placing reusable materials in landfill. To help locate your nearest recycling facility visit: www.recyclenow.com (UK customers only).

The Entertainer, where possible, works with its business partners to guarantee that there will be The Green Dot         symbol on the packaging of the products in which we sell. This is one of the most widely recognised packaging symbols which signifies that the packaging producer has contributed financially to the sorting,
recycling, and recovery of their packaging once it becomes waste.

We try our best to use packaging made from materials that are able to be recycled. You can help by recycling the packaging in accordance with the scheme offered by your local council. Most commonly, this can be collected at the kerbside, but there are lots of designated sites to recycle cardboard and plastic.

The Entertainer ensure that they adhere to the legal obligations with regards to Packaging by working with: Comply Direct and our registration number is: NPWD108372.
