Being a parent is all about guiding your child through life. Paving the way for them, setting the right example, and making unforgettable memories with the family.

You may ask yourself; how can I make moments special and memorable?

Establish your own family traditions!

But what is a tradition? The meaning of tradition is an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behaviour. Something you do again and again if you prefer.

Traditions are usually passed through members of the family, mothers to daughters, father to sons, grandmothers to grandchildren (once established, it can be passed down through the generations).

Family traditions are meaningful and will perpetuate the story and memories of your family through your children. Traditions bring big kids back to a happy place when they feel like reminiscing about ‘the good ol’ times’, just like their favourite soft toy would.

Tradition is a fabulous way to make the most precious memories with your children and to connect with each other.

What Traditions would best suit your family and how to start?

Sometimes it’s about throwing random ideas at the family and seeing which ones they are most excited or entertained by!
Try introducing the idea around the dinner table? (It’s always best to talk about fun new things when you have a lovely warm meal in your belly!)

Does the family have any shared interests? For example, do you all like wearing colourful, funky socks? You could make a crazy sock day every Wednesday.

It could be something you would like to teach your children, so later down the line you can do these things together. Whether you all love a good family board game or a film, why not establish ‘Friday is Family Fun Night’?

It could be anything, as long as everybody is happy with it, and it brings joy and laughter to the table! The choices are endless, so there are plenty of options to create your very own family traditions.

It is important to choose an activity that every member of the family loves, something that can be fun and amusing. You want your family to fondly remember these traditions and be excited for them, therefore, the more fun, the better!

What is better than thinking about something you used to do, as a child, that can now bring a smile on your face?

Feeling quite crafty or artsy:

How about turning your little one’s drawings into actual characters?

If your child is into drawing: people, animals, clothes or anything else, you could try to recreate them together. For example animal drawings, could then be made with dough or salt dough.

Salt dough is a great way to bond between parents and children. You could start a tradition of making salt dough for mum or dad’s birthday and do so every year. It could also be a family day where you and your little ones make hand prints on salt dough every year.

A great way to make memories is creating any arts and crafts for kids projects!

Get the popcorn ready!

What do you think about turning your living room into a cinema room for a movie night with the family? Put the mobile phones away and fully enjoy the quality time with your loved ones whilst enjoying a great family film and snacks.

Discuss which film the family would like to watch together and make it a regular occurrence to spend time together and this can become a great family tradition.

Watching a film is also perfect to strengthen family bonds and can have a positive emotional impact. Your children will cherish curling up with you and sharing the experience of watching something alongside you.

This is what childhood memories are made of!

On your marks, get set, PLAY

Introducing a game night could also be a good way of creating your very own family tradition. Collectively choose a game everyone wishes to play and get ready for a night full of laughter.

There are many benefits to playing board games as a family. This can develop strong family relationships, great communication skills and create extraordinary memories.

There is a game for everyone in our board games collection!

Better than the restaurant

Who does not like pizza? They come in so many different variations, there is a choice for everyone.

Buy all the ingredients to make your own homemade pizza with your loved ones, we recommend (depending on your diet) the classics: meats, mushrooms, peppers, onions, sweetcorn, olives, rocket, a variety of cheeses, and for our controversial audience PINEAPPLE! Work the dough and add your favourite toppings, allow the children to add everything on their pizza to boost creativity, cooking skills, and to enjoy the activity with the family.

Now sit around the dining table with your homemade pizza, feel free to tease each other’s designs! (Really, pineapple on pizza!?)

Photo please!

Your baby is starting school soon and you feel like you have aged 10 years in the past 6 months!

The little ones are growing up so fast and you might want to make sure you have memories for these wonderful milestones! Every year, on the first day back at school, you could take a photo of your little one wearing their back-to-school outfit.

A great tradition that could be pursued until they finish their studies. Everyone will enjoy looking back at these photos with great reminiscence. There are a variety of great child – safe cameras to choose from!

Let the adventure begin!

It could be taking a day trip to the seaside or biking down the forest. There are several great ways to enjoy the outdoors and create traditions and memories with your family.

Pack a bag and hop in the car or take the train and spend the day at the beach. Your little ones will enjoy collecting shellfish on a nice sandy walk, have a picnic facing the sea and breathe in that wonderful fresh air.

What a vivifying way to bond and make memories. (And the endless times your little one will pick up a ‘cool’ looking rock, just for you to say ‘ahh very nice!’)

If the beach and lazing on a towel is not your thing, you can also spend a day in the forest with the family, have a picnic in the woods or complete a forest obstacle course.

Appreciate what nature has to offer and take your family on an adventure. Let the children collect things like stones, acorns, and pinecones. These will make lovely objects to use for arts and craft projects too!

Shop our range of outdoor toys to have fun with the whole family.

Party ready!

Another great way to make memories and potentially create your own family tradition is to organise a party at home with the whole family.

It could be for a garden party, summer BBQ, New Year’s party or just a little gathering for friends and family, just for the sake of enjoying each other’s company.

Why not be bold with a kids fancy dress up party! Turn the music on and get the costumes out!

Dance the night away with your children and make the most memorable experiences for them to look back at.

Sleep Tight, don’t let the bedbug’s bite

Create a bedtime tradition by reading a story to your child every night before bed.

This is a great way to interact and discuss passing thoughts with your little one and a great family tradition to stick to. Let them ask questions and be curious. This is a great way to keep their imagination going too.

Summary

There are multiple benefits of creating your own family traditions. Whichever activity you decide to implement, will allow you and your family to spend quality time together and create a special bond that can last a lifetime.

It is also beneficial in the long run as these traditions will keep cherished memories alive for everyone to reminisce on and recreate with their loved ones and even pass down to their children and so on.

Having traditions can give children a great sense of identity and builds on their family values.

Most of all, family traditions can be amusing and exciting. It is a great way to get creative as a family and to make more special memories together.
