Arthur is a big, maroon tank engine. When he arrived on the Island of Sodor, he was as excited to work for The Fat Controller as he was proud of his spotless record. He was bought to shunt trucks and haul freight, but then was transferred to the Fishing Village line, on which he enjoys working.

Arthur is an LMS Ivatt Class 2 2-6-2T tank engine developed for the London MIdland & Scottish Railway (hence the initial "LMS" on his side), but only really came into service with Britsh Railways.
